OpenHands
An autonomous coding agent, formerly OpenDevin, built to take on feature-sized tasks end to end. It runs each task in an isolated Docker sandbox, and works with local models for a fully self-hosted agent.
Strengths
- Handles larger, multi-step tasks more autonomously than in-editor tools
- Isolated Docker runtime contains what the agent can touch
- Can run entirely locally with a capable model, keeping code in-house
Weaknesses
- Autonomous agents still go wrong, and need review of what they produce
- Docker-based setup is heavier than an editor extension
- Demands a strong model, so modest local hardware limits results
