Stable Diffusion web UI (AUTOMATIC1111)
The original browser-based interface for Stable Diffusion, and for a long time the default way to run image generation locally. It exposes nearly every control (samplers, schedulers, hires fix, inpainting, ControlNet, a large extensions ecosystem) through a dense web UI, which is both its appeal and the reason it feels heavy next to newer tools. Active development has slowed, and on modern GPUs the Forge fork usually runs the same workflows faster and in less memory.
Strengths

- Runs on NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPUs, and on as little as 4GB of VRAM
Weaknesses
- A steep learning curve despite the UI
- Requires Python and Git setup, and large model downloads
- Rapid, sometimes unstable development
